Gum disease
Periodontal diseases are a set of processes of an inflammatory nature and infectious cause (caused by bacteria) that affect the tissues that surround and hold the teeth. Depending on the degree of involvement, we call them gingivitis (usually causing inflamed gums) or periodontitis (when they affect the deep tissues, the bone and the dental support ligaments are destroyed). Neither state usually causes pain or other discomfort until they are in a very advanced stage. The main symptoms that may indicate the need for periodontal treatment are: bleeding gums, mobility of the teeth, empty spaces between the teeth, visualization of the roots of the teeth, bad taste in the mouth, sensitivity to cold, etc.
List of some symptoms of periodontitis:
- Swollen gums
- Bleeding gums
- Retracted gums
- Gum pain
Consequences of gum disease
If left untreated, periodontal disease progresses (at different rates, depending on the person). In such a case and in terminal stages it can mean the loss of teeth.
Dr. Anfruns has been trained following the protocols of the conservative school to treat periodontal diseases in their different stages, so whenever possible, the first treatment option will be to save teeth.
